Figure of the Month
February 2008:
Windsor Boy
 |
Figure Name:
Windsor Boy
Created by: George McAthy
Used by: Dick Kline
Trivia:
1. This unnamed figure was originally owned by Dick Kline of
Indiana, Pennsylvania and sold to Vent Haven in 1946.
2. Vent Haven Museum founder
W.S. Berger purchased this figure from owner Dick Kline after
reading about it in a classified section of a magazine entitled "The
Billboard."
3. Berger did not purchase the figure outright, but instead sent a
series of letters to Kline requesting additional information about
the figure. Berger wrote, "I am particularly anxious to know if the
figure has the following: Crepe or natural hair; Kind of eyes; How
many controls and what they are; Condition of facial-paint job; How
dressed and size; Also if the hands and feet are wood."
4. In response to Berger's requests, Kline stated that the figure
had a wood slot mouth jaw and lip controls; natural hair wig; new
clothes; wooden hands, but cloth feet. Kline stated that the figure
was 42 inches in height (Subsequent measurements, however, revealed
that the figure is, in fact, 45 inches in height).
5. Eventually Berger purchased the figure for $30.
6. The figure is called "Windsor" Boy because of the large Windsor
tie that it wears. In the original catalog Berger simply called the
figure "Boy."
7. This figure is on display in Building Two of Vent Haven Museum.
He is visible in the first QuickTime Virtual tour of that building.
He can be seen as soon as the virtual pan loads; he is the fourth
figure from the left on the front row.
Do you have additional information about this
figure? Do you have a suggestion for a future Figure of the Month? Is there a figure
maker whose work you would like to see featured? Let us know by emailing
the Vent Haven staff. |
